Conjoint Senior lecturer Liz Anelli has been making up stories since she was very small.

Internationally published and much acclaimed her children’s books have been extensively recognized – ‘Desert Lake’ (research enabled by Australian Society of Authors Award), won Scholastic Australia Standing Orders Librarians’ Choice Award 2016 and in 2017 was Notable Book in the CBCA Book of the Year Awards in both Eve Pownall and Picture Book categories. It was shortlisted for Educational Publishing Awards, NSW Premier’s Literary Awards, NSW Premier’s Young People’s History Award and Environment Award for Children’s Literature. ‘One Photo’ was shortlisted CBCA Picture Book of the Year 2017 and ‘Ten Pound Pom’ shortlisted in 2018.

Liz delights in complex scenes and is also well known for large scale illustrated city maps and murals which tell visual narratives. Most of all she loves to draw and owns dozens of sketchbooks full of drawings, scraps of packaging, tickets, rubbings and patterns which she digitally weaves into her collage, paint and print images.

An active member of SCWBI, CBCA and a Board Director of ASA, she regularly delivers talks and workshops for schools, festivals and conferences. Liz is an Ambassador for Books in Homes and reviews and judges picture books for CBCA. She is represented for picture books by The Transatlantic Agency, USA

Before relocating to Australia Liz taught printmaking, illustration, graphic design and drawing at Loughborough, De Montfort and Northampton Universities and was instrumental in founding The Big Draw.
