The Inflation Project

The Inflation Project

Braddon has been developing an innovative steel inflation method as core to his PhD research. This method exploits the material properties of steel when subject to the forces of the inflating process. Braddon has described this performative approach to the creation of form as Action Sculpture in reference to the Action Painting movement circa the 1960s.

Within this overarching methodology  Braddon has been developing a series of projects to interrogate this remarkable method.

Braddon recently completed a significant Public Art project  titled Clouds Gathering, commissioned by Maitland City Council for the Riverlink project.

He is now in development for a major site-specific intervention at The Lockup Contemporary Art Space where he will employ the inflated steel method to respond to this brutally loaded site that was Newcastle’s first police lockup built in 1861.
